Head of New Media at Al Jazeera Media Network @moeed

Moeed Ahmad is the Head of New Media at Al Jazeera. He joined Al Jazeera in 2005 and is currently leading a dynamic team which focuses on media innovation to enhance Al Jazeera's presence and engagement with its viewers on the social web and mobile. In recent years, the team has led the way in leveraging social media for news, particularly for Al Jazeera's coverage of the 2011 Arab Spring. He is a proponent of open source and empowering communities through projects like Al Jazeera Creative Commons Repository.

Katie Baucom

Geospatial Analyst at National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency @katieb3505

Katie is a geospatial analyst within the Readiness, Response and Recovery Integrated Working Group at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (IWG-R3) which supports FEMA, USAID, and the Department of State in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) efforts. Her current focus is leveraging social media data to improve information sharing and increase situational awareness during crisis response.

Johan Bollen

CEO at Guidewave Consulting @jlbollen

Johan Bollen is associate professor at the Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing (2009-present). He was formerly a staff scientist at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (2005-2009). His research takes place at the intersections between informatics, computer science, network science, social science, and informetrics. His present interests include the study of social phenomena such as collective mood states and social contagion in large-scale online networking environments. He is the CEO of Guidewave Consulting, LLC, a Bloomington IN based startup that provides advanced social media analytics for finance.

Sean Bruich

Head of Measurement Platforms & Standards at Facebook

Sean Bruich leads Facebook's measurement platforms and standards team. Sean and his team are responsible for measuring how advertising and branded content impact users' behaviors and perceptions, and for developing and standardizing methodologies for evaluating the effectiveness of marketing programs. Before joining Facebook, Sean was with Google's Customer Labs and Quantitative Marketing groups, where he managed Google's quantitative advertiser research and developed advertising effectiveness measurement tools for advertisers. Sean studied cognitive neuroscience at Stanford University, where his research utilized brain-imaging technologies such as fMRI and EEG.

Jesse Burros

Director of Business Operations at GetGlue @jmburros

Jesse Burros is GetGlue's director of business operations, where he is responsible for day-to-day operations including finance, legal, recruitment, and partnerships.

Jesse joined GetGlue from Time Warner Investments, the strategic venture investment division of Time Warner. There he was actively involved with Time Warner's portfolio companies GetGlue, Simulmedia, Crowdstar, Broadlogic, Playspan, Kosmix, and Six Degrees Games.

Prior to Time Warner Investments, Jesse was a manager of strategy and business development for Comedy Central, SPIKE, and TV Land, and began his career as an analyst with Jefferies' technology investment banking division, Jefferies Broadview.

Jesse has a bachelor's degree in Social Studies from Harvard University and lives in Brooklyn, NY.

Ian Cairns

Ian Cairns is a proud member of the DC tech community where he works as an advisor to government agencies, helping them adopt new web technologies and improve their existing citizen engagement and internal business products. Ian’s experience includes both public policy and technology work, which he first blended together during his time at Development Seed. He was part of the team that launched MapBox, Open Atrium, and Managing News – an early news and social media monitoring project started by Development Seed in 2005. Ian spent nearly a decade in Boulder, CO and might still call it home if not for the Obama Administration’s open government initiatives.

SJ Camarata

S.J. Camarata is a Director of ESRI. He focuses on the company’s global corporate strategies. He also currently serves on a number of boards (both for profit and non-profit organizations) and has held a number of other board seats over the years. He has been a founder and co-founder of several companies in the GIS, technology and mobile medical industries. He holds a BS degree from the University of Utah and an MLA degree from Utah State University.

Rumi Chunara

Instructor at Harvard Medical School and Healthmap @rumichunara

Rumi is an Instructor at Harvard Medical School and HealthMap, with a background in building biological sensors. Her interests are on using novel information sources to describe and predict population-level public health issues and improve health around the world. To date, she has run studies harnessing data from Twitter, Facebook, HealthMap and Amazon Mechanical Turk.

Susan Etlinger

Susan Etlinger is an industry analyst at Altimeter Group, where she works with global companies to develop both social media listening and measurement strategies that support their business objectives. Susan has a diverse background in marketing and strategic planning within both corporations and agencies. She's a frequent speaker on social media and analytics and has been extensively quoted in outlets including Fast Company, BBC, NPR, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.

Joe Fernandez

Joe Fernandez is the Founder and CEO of Klout. While his jaw was wired shut for nearly three months after surgery, Joe began to develop a deep fascination with the evolution of influence within the social web. The way individuals could instantly broadcast questions, opinions, and ideas to their trusted network sparked his curiosity.

In 2008, Joe started Klout in an effort to help businesses understand this individual user impact by providing context around who a person influences and what topics they are particularly influential in. Klout is currently the standard for influence on the social web. Joe grew up in Las Vegas and attended University of Miami and Oxford University.

Fred Funke

Fred is currently the Director of Sales at Gnip and is largely responsible for defining and leading Gnip's sales and business development initiatives.

Fred has over 15 years of successful experience building out sales/marketing teams within the high tech market and has led the sales efforts for several software organizations including UC4 and ZOLL Data Systems. He also acts as an advisor to several startups within the Boulder area.

Yael Garten

Senior Data Scientist, Team Lead for Mobile Data Analytics at LinkedIn @yaelgarten

Yael Garten is a Senior Data Scientist at LinkedIn, where she leads the mobile data analytics team that focuses on understanding and increasing Mobile engagement of LinkedIn's 160M+ members. Yael's team works closely with the product managers and executive team to convert LinkedIn's rich data into actionable product and business insights, with the goal of optimizing members' mobile experience and creating powerful data-driven products that truly serve them.

Before joining LinkedIn, Yael was at Stanford University, where she completed her PhD in Biomedical Informatics, focusing on information extraction via natural language processing to understand how human genetic variations impacts drug response. Yael advises biomedical companies on informatics methodologies to transform high throughput data into insights. She has a PhD from Stanford University School of Medicine, and MSc from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel.

Nicole Glaros

Nicole got her entrepreneurial start in the 4th grade, orchestrating cousins into theatrical plays and charging neighbors admission. From there, she founded three startups including PropertyManagementShop.com, all of which are still operating. She has spent nearly a decade working to improve the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Colorado through leadership roles at various organizations and incubators such as CTEK, Investor Avenue, CleanLaunch, and the Advance Colorado Center. She considers herself privileged to have worked with nearly 100 brilliant and gutsy seed-stage web software entrepreneurs. Nicole graduated with her Master’s Degree from the University of Florida, likes to do at least one philanthropic thing annually, and shares the wonderment of parenthood with the love of her life, Mark. When not thinking about TechStars, you’ll find Nicole on the slopes or on her bike, hanging with her big fat greek family, traveling to some exotic destination, or generally making a fool of herself to entertain others.

Zach Hofer-Shall

Analyst at Forrester Research @znh

Zach is an Analyst at Forrester Research focusing on social intelligence – the process of driving business insight with social media data. His research focuses on the applications of using social media data for the enterprise, the process of identifying actionable insight from online conversation, and the technology and service vendors that make managing social media data possible.

Prior to joining Forrester in 2008, Zach ran the social media strategy arm of a UK-based marketing firm, where he developed a social media monitoring tool and delivered social business strategies. His work involved building and advising on corporate blogs, planning social media marketing campaigns, developing corporate social media strategies, and driving social media monitoring and measurement initiatives.

Rob Johnson

Fahad Kamr

Howard Lindzon

Mr. Lindzon has more than twenty years experience in the financial community acting in both an entrepreneurial and investing capacity. Howard continues to manage a hedge fund he started in 1998.

Kenneth Little

Prior to joining Tumblr, Ken worked as an Engineering Director at Etsy where he drove the implementation of a shared data architecture, helping the site achieve new heights in throughput and availability.

Seth McGuire

Seth McGuire is the Director, Asset Management & Financial Technology at Gnip, Inc. in Boulder, CO. Founded in 2008, Gnip is the leading provider of real-time social media data for enterprise applications ranging from hedge funds to social media monitoring firms and business intelligence companies. Gnip aggregates and delivers ready-to-consume data from dozens of social media sites, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, blogs and forums. Chris Moody

In this role, Moody is responsible for the day-to-day execution of Gnip's operations with direct responsibility for sales, marketing, finance, and business development.

Martin Remy

Shawn Rogers

Ryan Sarver

Ryan is currently the Director of Platform at Twitter where he works with developers building myriad of experiences on top of 140 characters. Prior to Twitter, he was the Director of Consumer Products at Skyhook Wireless where he led product initiatives that leveraged the WPS platform in consumer applications and experiences. Ryan was also one of the founding members of the W3C Geolocation API Working Group.

He is an avid fan of hockey and wine.

Myles Sutherland

Myles Sutherland is the Manager of Emerging Business Group at ESRI. He focuses on helping early stage companies understand the power of geography and location intelligence in their efforts. He also is exploring new technologies across a broad range of industries, including social web, indoor location, smart devices, crowd sourcing, and geolocation. He holds a couple of Geography degrees from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. He is an avid sportsman and supporter of his family's Outdoor Leadership programs back in New Zealand.

Richard Tibbetts

Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at StreamBase @tibbetts

As a co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at StreamBase, Richard provides technical leadership for the company and leads architecture design for StreamBase’s Event Processing Platform. Richard is also responsible for furthering new StreamBase capabilities such as StreamBase’s ‘white-box’ application frameworks, for example, the Smart Order Routing Framework.

As CTO, Richard directs the next-generation of StreamSQL, the event programming language developed by Richard and the StreamBase team, which applies the benefits of SQL for stored data to real-time transitory data.

Richard is an active blogger and writer, and frequently represents StreamBase at leading technology events such as SIGMOD, VLDB, and DEBS. Richard is also the StreamBase representative at EPTS, a Complex Event Processing industry group of which StreamBase is a founding member. In addition, Richard proactively works with multiple vendors, including Oracle, to further advance the cause of CEP and CEP standards.

Richard earned both his BS in Computer Science and Engineering, and Masters of Engineering Degrees at MIT. He completed his graduate research under the direction of Dr. Mike Stonebraker, StreamBase’s founder.

Jud Valeski

Jud Valeski is co-founder and CEO of Gnip, the leading provider of social media data for enterprise applications. From client-side consumer facing products to large scale backend infrastructure projects, he has enjoyed working with technology for over twenty years. He’s been a part of engineering, product, and M&A teams at IBM, Netscape, onebox.com, AOL, and me.dium. He has played a central role in the release of a wide range of products used by tens of millions of people worldwide.

Jud pursues big ideas that have the potential to change large scale behavior. He lives passionately in Boulder, CO with his wife and two children.

Doug Williams

Doug Williams leads ecosystem and product partnerships at Twitter, including the partnership between Twitter and Gnip. Prior to Twitter, Doug was a software engineer at IBM. Doug has bachelor's degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and now lives in San Francisco.
